ANNOUNCEMENT OF A CONFERENCE
'Social Action for Health and Well-Being' is a two-day conference in London,
20-21 June, to present the findings from the Health Development Agency's
major programme of research on the use of social capital to improve health
and reduce health inequalities. The conference will explore how social
capital relates to age, gender and ethnicity, the links between social
capital and health and will include demonstration projects that have used a
social action approach. It will also provide the chance for health, local
authority and voluntary sector professionals working in research, practice
and policy to share experiences and discuss the potential for social capital
to contribute to the reduction of health inequalities in England. The Guest
Key Note Speaker is Professor Robert Putnam, Harvard University, author of
'Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community'. For more
