Dear colleagues,
We are seeing severe injuries resulting from hospital workers who have
slipped and fallen when wearing disposable overshoes that have become wet.
Paper fabric overshoes seem to be a particular problem.
In addition the paper type of overshoe tends to split before the shift is
over (sometimes within one or two hours) and consequently cannot be
completely effective as a means of infection control.
Has anyone else notices a similar pattern of accidents? Does anyone know how
the wet slip resistance of hospital overshoes compares with a standard
rubber shoe sole or the various types of clogs that can be used instead of
overshoes? Has anyone compared the infection control effectiveness of using
theatre-only clogs versus using overshoes?
