Further information:
The Mary Seacole Research Centre was established in 1996, as a collaborative
venture with the support of the Royal College of Nursing. Its principal
objectives are to provide a centre of excellence in practice-oriented
research pertaining to ethnic diversity, racial and social exclusion, and
multi-professional approaches to health care, and to facilitate nursing
practice development building on these insights. It is seeking to
incorporate user involvement in new ways into the practice of research and
practice development. A variety of activities and strategies have been
developed to achieve these aims in the past year, and to build upon the
earlier phase of establishment (1996-1998). In particular, the centre has
begun a new phase of recruitment and expansion, and held a number of
workshops and conferences, while taking on research contracts and
commissioned developmental projects at a local, regional and national level.
