I thought I should let the list know what has happened
in Bath in the last three months because it is quite
exterordinary and may serve as an inspiration to those
still battling with this.
Nov/Dec 2001 - over 12h trolley waits 240-280 per
month, or 180 if times taken from recorded 'decision
to admit' however you define it
today, discussion over a 12 hour trolley wait on
Friday - 'how on earth did that happen??'
We have had no trolley waits over 12h other than that
one for a few weeks. It is utterly different to the
scenario in the Autumn and early winter! We still stop
unloading ambulances occasionally but I have not felt
the department was unsafe now since the New Year
whereas in the Autumn it was unsafe every day for long
periods.
How has this happened?
WEST.
it appears, and I speak from my point of view here as
of course the WEST Emergency Medicine senior member is
a regular contributor to this list, is that WEST had
the power to make emergency patients more important
than elective ones. So the Trust have addressed it.
It is that simple.
