I would check what files are in the package with
$ rpm -qpl ca_CERN-0.4-1.noarch.rpm
The rpm problem is caused because the packages as you
say were built with rpm 3.
'The LCFG Site Server Installation Guide' [1] from WP6 gives some
clues as to how to downgrade a v4 rpm to a rpm v3.
$ rpm --rebuilddb --dbapi 3 --rebuilddbapi 1
$ rpm --dbapi 1 -Uvh --oldpackage rpm-3.0.5-9.6x.edg.i386.rpm
$ rpm --rebuilddb
I have not done this so it could all go horribly wrong.
[1] WP6's CVS , the file ug.tex in module
fabric_mgt/installation/documentation/server-install/
is the LCFG Site Server Installation.

Subject: Certificate installation
Hi all,
We have been trying to use the kickstart installation to install TB1. All
seems to work correctly except that none of the CA certificates are
installed. If we try to do this by hand, we get, for example:
[root@pc15 beta21.i386]# rpm -i ca_CERN-0.4-1.noarch.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 is needed by ca_CERN-0.4-1
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 is needed by ca_CERN-0.4-1
If we ignore dependencies, RPM reports that the installation completes,
but the certificates are still not there.
Does anyone know what these dependency errors mean? Is it that the RPMs
were built using a wrong version of RPM, or is it that we somehow have the
wrong version of RPM?
Thanks
Paul
