TRAVEL SERIES COMING TO PUBLIC TV STATIONS IN 2003
The Disabled Traveller television series is a travel show that will
venture
across America visiting a variety of tourist attractions, overnight
accommodations, and restaurants providing pertinent information on
accessibility for the millions of disabled viewers.
Many people with disabilities may not travel for fear of the "unknown."
In
other words, they are more aware of where they can't go than where they
can
go. Ron wants to change the can't to can
The show will be hosted by Ron Wilmers, (who is also in a
wheelchair). Accompanied by a full television crew, Ron will travel to
his
destinations in his van and will be joined by his wife, Kay, and young
grandson, Josh.
The programs are positive, fast-paced and informational filling a real
need for the millions of people with disabilities along with their
families
or friends who have the "travel bug", but are reluctant to travel.
The public TV series will only be a part of this concept. The Disabled
Traveller web site will supplement and expand upon the information in
each
TV program. Over time, the site will become one of the premiere location
of
information on travel for the disabled.
The Disabled Traveller has full support of The American Public
Television
Corporation in Boston, one of the main suppliers for Public Television
programs. Their pilot on Frankenmuth has been well received by the
Public
TV stations through out the country and received strong support from the
travel and tourism industry.
Thirteen programs are planned annually. Shooting for the premiere season
is
to take place in summer of 2002; distribution is planned for January of
2003.
They are currently seeking additional funding partners to make the
Disabled
Traveller a reality! For more information about The Disabled Traveller
