medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear CC and all: Before Alphonse of Poitiers took over the domains of
the local house of St-Gilles/Toulouse, the inquisitors were local
Dominicans. Afterward, partly because of Alphonse's Capetian
residence and interests, and partly because of a grave conflict
between the local inquisitors and the papacy over Pamiers, I believe,
they were all appointed from northern France. This history is to be
seen in Yves Dossat's Les crises of the inquisition. A somewhat
muddy book, but full of information. John Mundy
