Like J.P Roos, I think this attack on the Statistics Bureau merits letters
of protest. These are likely to be most effective from international
organisations that produce and use statistics such as ESA, although
individual protests are also useful in showing the Israeli govt that the
their actions are widely abhorred. Radical Statistics (UK) has already sent
a letter to Sharon, expressing our shock at the raid.
In reply to Claudine, outrage at the attack has nothing to do with
anti-Jewish prejudice, although many of us, including Israelis and British
Jews, are opposed to the current inflammatory and brutal tactics of the
Sharon government.
Peace has no chance as long as mutual retaliation is the norm. Therefore our
protest should make it clear that we oppose violence from any source.
