Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards (CETIS)
University of Wales Bangor 
################################
CETIS is a major JISC funded initiative based in Bangor University’s
Centre for  Learning Technology (CeLT). CETIS has been commissioned by
the JISC to act as a  two-way link between UK HE and FE and the various
active learning technology  standards bodies, both gaining their input
and feedback to the community, as  well as supporting their appropriate
adoption and use. Its work is rapidly  expanding, and as a result we are
now seeking a suitably qualified person to  take the role of assistant
director in the existing team. Internet supported  learning is widely
expected to be revolutionised by specifications and  standards currently
under development in various international bodies. It is  not just "all
XML" - commercial titans clash, international politics intrude,
different approaches to online learning vie for support. 

Job specification 
=================

We are looking for a highly capable person either seeking to establish,
or  already establishing, a career in Learning Technology/eLearning.
CETIS has  expanded recently by funding other institutions as
sub-contractors to  co-ordinate specialist groups, and a key task will
be to work with these to  maintain coherence across the various areas of
interest. 

Technical understanding of educational technology, the Web, XML and the
Internet are all essential. Background on the domain, will be provided,
but the  successful candidate will have to get up to speed quickly. 

This is a rare opportunity for the right person to develop and make a
make a  high profile mark in the field 

Responsibilities
================

- Overall special interest groups support and co-ordination, ensuring
synergy  and cooperation 
- Managing CETIS workplan implementation 
- Briefing Director on operational issues 
- Budgeting 
- Support for other JISC funded programmes and projects 
- Participation in Learning Technology Standards bodies, as appropriate 
- Workshop and conference contribution 
- Publications 
- Website reports 
- Other as needed by Director 

Person Specification
====================

Essential:

- good organisational skills and the ability to work concurrently on
more than  one aspect of the programme 
- management skills and the ability to work as part of a team, and be
flexible  and independent 
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels,
including the  ability to make presentations 
- a good understanding of educational technology, the Web, XML and the
Internet 
- the ability to produce briefing documents 
- energy, initiative and ability to work under pressure at times 
- willingness to travel regularly, both nationally and internationally 

The Post
======== 

The post is full-time, initially for 18 months. We would expect this
post to be  based at the University of Wales Bangor, but we will
consider secondments from  those in place who will continue to work from
their existing institution. 

The salary will be on ALC 3, up to a maximum of £30,000 depending on
background  and experience.

in  this rapidly developing domain, making it intelligible and relevant
to our  multi-faceted community, working closely with CETIS web
journalist, who has  established the CETIS website as an internationally
recognised, lively and  informative web site. 

Briefing documents, presentations and workshops at a wide range of
events will  be required, as will national and international travel. 

CETIS is currently expanding by funding other institutions as
sub-contractors  to co-ordinate specialist groups which will run their
own web sites, so the  ability to work with these in disseminating their
work will also be needed. 

Technical understanding of educational technology, the Web, XML and the
Internet are required. Background on the domain and introduction to key
players  will be provided.
