Dear Dominique,
I've had a good look at the SMR forum archive and can't find your files!
Could it possibly have gone on the FISH archive?
I would suggest that you could perhaps consider two levels of detailed
recording by SMRs:
* a general level of recording that could be achieved by all SMRs
(recording that environmental sampling had taken place at a site or that
specific scientific dating or conservation techniques had been carried out,
and refering to a report for further detail ie: acting as an index only)
* a more detailed level of recording that would be achieved by SMRs
with sufficient resourcing or with a specific interest in such detailed
recording.
The main constraints at present are the controlled terminologies contained
in the thesauri. The MDA Object Thesaurus does include some environmental
terms under 'Ecofacts', but the EH Monument Type thesaurus does not include
any appropriate terms for envoronmental sampling or scientific dating that
is not directly related to a monument. The list of 'Natural features' and
'Watercourses' is also very limited.
The HBSMR database includes a fairly good range of Environmental Sampling,
Scientific Analysis and Geophysical and Geochemical Survey terms in the pull
down lists for 'Event Records', and also has a fairly good list of
Scientific Dating techniques for recording Period in the 'Monument Records'.
Best wishes,
