Final call for papers for the 2002 Conference on 'SOCIAL VALUES, SOCIAL
POLICIES: Normative foundations of changing social policies in European
countries' at Tilburg University, Tilburg, The Netherlands, 29-31 August
2002.
The conference aims at directing attention to the interrelations between
changes in social values and social policies, thus contributing to a wider
understanding of the cultural factor in welfare change.
KEY-NOTE SPEAKERS are Peter Taylor-Gooby (UK) on two models of welfare
values, Stefan Svallfors (Sweden) on institutions, attitudes and political
choices, and Jill Duerr-Berrick (USA) on welfare myths and morals.
There are SESSIONS ORGANISED by:
+ Jane Lewis: Family values and models
+ John Clarke: The cultural turn in social policy
+ Jochen Clasen: Principles of (re)distributive justice
+ Theo Schuyt: Philanthropy and charitable giving
+ Michael Adler: The legal protection of social rights
+ Jean-Michel Bonvin, Pascale Vielle: The normative revolution of the
active welfare state
+ Bart Criel: Non-western formal and informal social security
+ Hugo Swinnen: Minimum income schemes: protection or activation
+ Karel Veraghtert: Social policy history
In addition there is a series of OPEN SESSIONS for papers which do not fit
under the themes mentioned. WE WELCOME SUCH PAPERS, and will cluster them
under common themes.
