Wow is this US debate still going?
I think the APTA article re US you are referring to is not a study but a
review of the US literature. It raises many valid points that have been
clouded by the profession's dependency upon a placeo machine that might
encourage patients to fork over $35, due to many patients not seeing $35
value in heat, mobes, and massage.
Of course, this state of affairs highlights the foggy role of private
physiotherapy practice in western societies. As I have commented before, as
a scientifically rooted profession, physiotherapy must be careful not to
adopt treatments whose value is highly likely placebo only; otherwise we
may as well get into crystal therapy and aura reading....which also have
great placebo effects and keep natural therapists in work.
