thanks, i don't recall ever seeing the word before --shows how much time i've
spent with dionysian documents.
"_Catolacum_, puis _Dionysiopolis_, _Fanum Sancti Dionysii_"

the etymology and permutations of place names can, in the right hands, yield
quite remarkable details about the history of a place.
there was a local scholar in Chartres (Guy Villette) only part of whose work
as been formally published (_Les Noms des villes et villages d'Eure-et-Loir_ /
Guy Villette (abbé) ; collab. Georges Bonnebas. - Centre départemental de
documentation pédagogique d'Eure-et-Loir, 1991).
his detailed explications really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the
discipline.
