ARL
LIBS 2002
The 2nd International Conference on
Laser Induced Plasma Spectroscopy and Applications
Sponsored by the Optical Society of America
24-28 September 2002
Caribe Royale Resort Suites and Villas (www.cariberoyale.com)
Orlando, FL
Abstract Deadline- 28 May 2002
(for complete conference information see- www.osa.org/LIBS)
Conference Description
Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is a major new sensor
technology undergoing significant accelerated development in both hardware
and application areas (www.arl.army.mil/wmrd/LIBS). LIBS is versatile and
robust and is especially suitable for field applications. Detection and
identification of unknowns, both chemical and biological, is accomplished
by identifying the constituent chemical elements and abundances of the
target material using optical emission spectroscopy. LIBS attributes
include real-time detection, no sample preparation, and both point as well
as standoff detection capability.
Topics Covered
Basic Issues, Applications (environmental, security, cultural heritage,
life sciences, materials/industrial analysis, plasma monitoring, laser
ablation, hyphenated techniques), and LIBS Technology (new laser sources,
new broadband spectrometers, advances in software, commercial instruments,
fieldable and portable systems, fiber optic LIBS, and remote analysis)
Special Events
Panel Discussion on LIBS and Homeland Defense
Panel Discussion on Future of LIBS Sensor Technology and Applications
