Research Opportunities in Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy & Molecular Imaging
at UCL
Following recent substantial EPSRC funding for ultrafast laser work, one or
more Ph.D. studentships are available for picosecond and femtosecond laser
research within the Ultrafast Laser Laboratory in the Department of Physics
& Astronomy at University College London. Research topics include:
· Studies of the dynamics of laser aligned molecules using two colour
femtosecond stimulated emission depletion spectroscopy.
· New techniques for time resolved sub wavelength resolution in laser
imaging using femtosecond laser pulses.
· Femtosecond evanescent wave techniques for time resolved studies of
molecular dynamics at surfaces and in thin films.
· Single and two photon time resolved fluorescence studies of molecular
dynamics within liquid crystals and biomolecular assemblies.
The projects are available for students with or about to obtain an M.Sci.
degree (at 2.1 or higher) in Physics, Chemistry or a related discipline,
full funding is only available for UK nationals. Informal inquiries, in the
first instance, should be addressed to:
