Announcement of the 200th College Subscription to Infotrac,
made possible by the JISC's deal with the Gale Group
The Joint Information Systems Committee and the Gale Group
are delighted to announce that the 200th subscriber to
Infotrac is Hereford Sixth Form College. This landmark
represents the most successful JISC deal ever with a
publisher in terms of institutional take-up.
Eileen Wardley, Learning Resource Centre Manager at
Hereford College, said: "Our college wouldn't be able to
afford to subscribe to Infotrac without this JISC deal. Our
budget is small, but we can now make an awful lot more
available to our students. This is an exciting development
for us, and Infotrac will now become central to our library
training events and to our learning support to students."
On the 14th March 2002, the JISC and the Gale Group are
holding a celebratory event at the British Library, marking
the 200th college subscription to Infotrac - a huge online
collection of electronic newspapers and journals. A special
presentation will be made to Hereford Sixth Form College to
mark this event.
Susan Eales, Collections Manager at JISC said: "We often
hear reports of e-learning activities in schools and
universities. This landmark demonstrates first hand that
the FE sector is maximising the opportunities provided by
the JISC to encourage the use of quality online resources,
which can enhance modern day learning and teaching
practices. In addition, colleges are supported in their
widening participation and lifelong learning agendas".
