Another EBSCO query.
We need to allow off-campus access to individual EBSCO titles using Athens,
but our discussions with EBSCO in the UK and US are not very conclusive.
It appears that durable (journal specific) URL's will not prompt users for
authentication if an active session of EBSCOhost is running in the
background or there is cookie is stored on the computer with authentication
information. Apparently if there has been a recent login temporary session
cookies could still hold authentication information that would allow users
into the system without requesting authentication. This might mean users
would access with someone else's Athens account. With open access PCs
processes for deleting session cookies to avoid this will vary in
effectiveness.
EBSCO recommend durable URLs are used only on a secure site (whatever that
is).
How have others dealt with this?
