Physicians for Human Rights - UK announce a conference on Defeating
Discrimination in Health Care: the Human Rights Approach and its Role in
Medical Education

Evidence from around the world demonstrates that some doctors discriminate
in healthcare provision against marginalised groups of patients, including
for example women and ethnic minorities, and those with increased health
needs such as elderly people, people with learning disability and people
living with HIV.

This conference is the first in the UK to consider the implications of the
PHR-UK report on health care discrimination in the UK, submitted in May to
the UN Committee in Geneva [CESCR] that monitors the UK's implementation of
the right to health.

It will also feature a talk by the UN's first Special Rapporteur on the
Right to Health, Professor Paul Hunt of the University of Essex.
