Hello all,
During May this year you may remember that I posted requests to the list for
help in developing an 'Expression of Interest' (EoI) statement for
submission to a new funding source from the European Union referred to as
the '6th framework'.
It was very good to have had so many subscribers contribute their thoughts
on this, and as result an EoI was submitted to the organisers in June,
under the working title EuroFISH - the European Forum on Information
Standards in Heritage. Recent reports suggest that some 15,000 EoI documents
were submitted. The EU has made available a searchable database at the web
address:
http://eoi.cordis.lu/search_form.cfm
part of the CORDIS site which provides much more information on the 6th
framework. Try some searches on 'heritage' etc to see the EuroFISH proposal
and comparable EoI documents. Clearly there will be much scope for extending
EuroFISH collaboration to other proposed research areas detailed in other
EoIs.
The next step will be a forum meeting of a large number of EoI submitters in
Luxembourg next month, which I will be attending on behalf of FISH, along
with Matthew Stiff from English Heritage and Martin Doerr from ICS FORTH in
Crete. Following on from that a call for proposals for funding will be
issued in (I think) December.
Preparation of the EoI document in May at short notice, and yet including
input from across Europe (and as far away as China) is perhaps a model for
the sort of collaborative work which EuroFISH (or whatever standards
development network emerges) might tackle, and I'd like to thank all those
who helped put the EoI together, and encourage others to have a look at the
website and consider how we can build a workable proposal to the EU.
