Dates: 22 July 2002
23 July 2002

Calling all archivists! Do you know how to implement the descriptive
standards in your archive?
If you need an introduction to the International Council on Archives
descriptive standards, commonly referred to as ISAAR [CPF] and ISAD[G] and
want an opportunity to consider their implementation in your archive, then
this is the course for you.
This one day programme will give archivists, both junior and senior, an
opportunity to consider the contents and applications of these descriptive
standards.
The course will be a mixture of talks on the standards:
* 'Creating Fonds Level Descriptions based on ISAD(G) from
Existing Catalogues" by Dr Alan Borthwick
* 'Implementing an Archival Cataloguing System' by Steve
Bordwell
* 'Authority records: a new ISAAR for the networking era' by
Dick Sargeant
Plus hands on workshops, facilitated by Caroline Brown and Jenny Cutts, in
which delegates can consider the implementation of descriptive standards in
their repositories. Delegates will be expected to participate, by using
examples of finding aids from their office.
Registration will be from 9.00. The sessions will start at 9.30 and finish
at 17.00.
