Rather earlier than I was lead to believe that it was going to happen, the
Government's White Paper Civil Registration:Vital Changewas published
yesterday. The media hype has been fixed mainly on the further freeing up
of venues where people can get married, but of interest to this list will
be the issue of the transfer of "historic" records from local register
offices to record offices. This issue is discussed on page 30 of the White
Paper.
