Hi Paul,
Thanks for the question.
Our aim is to be format-neutral, so in principle any digital resource can be
handled.
The easiest way to integrate with an existing streaming server would be to
store the URL of the stream as the learning object. This is what we would
call a "virtual object".
This would be using the repository as a cataloguing system, whilst
preserving the digital content on your existing servers. A URL reference
back to the repository could then be used to integrate with a VLE etc.
Getting into the nitty-gritty, there is a spec called OpenURL which is
designed to reference resources in this way, and we are looking at
supporting that. Integration with portals and so on is probably best
approached on a web-services model, using SOAP. IMS have released a first
draft of a SOAP binding for querying repositories, and we expect to support
that when it is stable.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Martin
