Not wishing to outdo the wonderfully surreal translation of Beatles lyrics I
thought I would try one of the email disclaimers appearing on this list
through an online translator and back. I'm so pleased with it I'm thinking
of adding it to all my emails. As usual the names have been deleted to
protect the innocent. Yes Jon, I have got better things to do ... I just
can't think of them at the moment.

By way of illustration: a friend decided to put the lyrics to "Maxwell's
Silver Hammer" into a computer programme translator - into French, then back
to English. Below is the result.

> Joan was quizzical, the Science of studied
> pataphysical in the house harm them Late all only
> one
> with her an examination tube Oh, oh, oh, oh Maxwell
> Edison, majoring in the medicine
> Calls she on the telephone "I can take you out to
> the
> pictures Jo-o-o-oan?" But as her prepares herself
> to
> go A blow lights the door
>
> Blow! Blow! Maxwell the hammer money is descended
> on
> his head Clang! Clang! Maxwell money hammers is to
> assure itself that she was dead
>
> The back in the school again Maxwell plays the idiot
> again Teaching receives To Wish it bothered to avoid
> and the scene e unpleasant-e-in She says to the
> Maximum to remain when classifies it left IF IT
> awaits
> behind Ecrivant fifty times "I do not must be

> Blow! Blow! Maxwell the hammer money is descended

> his head Clang! Clang! Maxwell money hammers is to
> assure itself that she was dead
>
> The PERCENT. thirty a said one "caught us a dirty
> one

> one
> that painting only, oh, oh, oh, oh s'Elevé itself

> Blow! Blow! Maxwell the hammer money is descended

>
And the chorus translated from Spanish:

The collision! The collision! The hammer of the
silver of Maxwell descended upon its Sound of head!
The sound! The hammer of the silver of Maxwell was
affirmed that she was dead person

Yes. Find a speaker of the other language and ask them to do it. If
you want to see how bad translation software is then re-translate it from
the other language and see what you get back in English. I tested some of
this software recently with German friends. They fell about laughing when
they read the resulting German from English.

Is there a way to translate a Microsoft Word document
written in English to another language?
