Petr, we had a similar problem here at city of sunderland college with our AS level psychology course....with over 400 students it was impossible for us to manage the assessment of this cohort in a single site...so our students are enrolled into two AS psychology courses. A generic one, which they all access for course materials, announcements, web-sites etc, and a class group one where they do their assignments. This has two advantages....firstly, members of staff do not have to scroll through 400 names to find their class grades, they simply obtain them in discrete class
groups; secondly we did not have to copy all of the course materials etc to each class group (we have 15 class groups) because of the generic site that they all have access to...this also saved space on the server. We use Blackboard, by the way, but i am sure that this solution can work across platforms.

Because many of our courses number very few students we have decided in certain cases to create generic courses. So, for example, we'll have an A Level course and all students who enroll on an A Level course will automatically go into this WebCT course. We'll probably combine the same full-time and evening courses in a similar way. Training will then focus on how to separate students within this course dependent on subject area/mode of study.

The official course codes used by the MIS system will then point to the appropriate WebCT code. Thus, all the different A Level course codes could point to one WebCT code. In principle this would seem to be OK, although any views on the technicalities of this are welcome.

The calendar tool for example could become very cluttered. Is there anyone out there who has struggled with the same issues that could share their experiences?
