ISEE conference in Sousse beginning of march 2002 featured a thematic
session on role games, models and negotiation. This session fostered active
discussions among participants with various experiences on the joint use of
role games and models in neogotiation processes. These discussions have
lead to exchanges relative to empirical experiences as well as implication
of chosen protocols and some beginnings on the multiple purposes on such
tools.
These multiple purposes have been found potentially blurring the whole
process when taking place is the same experiment. It strengthens the
importance of specifying purpose of joint use(s) of these tools when
relating and analysing experiments with the tools. When dealing with models
and interactive methods, tools can't be considered independently from their
methodology of use.
But these multiple purposes of joint uses of models and role games in
relation with negotiation or co-ordination issues may enrich discussions in
comparing protocols and improving methodologies.
In order to go on with these rich interactions which happened in Sousse, a
new mailing list is opened: smaj.
It will broadly deal with interactive modelling, from extension specialists
using such kind of tools in their activity, to experimental scientists
(economists, psychologists...) using some kind of role playing games to
improve and test their theoretical knowlegde on behaviours.
The purpose of the list is mainly to exchange on:
- practices (e.g. feed back on experiments to be discussed)
- methodological patterns
- more classical information such as Call for papers, conferences, etc.
relevant to the list
