Centre for Teaching, Learning and Assessment
The University of Edinburgh
STUDY DEVELOPMENT ADVISER
Salary scale: AR1A £17,626 - £26,491
Applications are invited for a Study Development Adviser to work in the
Centre for Teaching, Learning and Assessment. The main remit of the
Centre is to support the University in sustaining and enhancing the
quality of teaching and learning. The post-holder will take a leading role
in developing, establishing and co-ordinating a study skills programme
across the University. This programme will be available to all students
and it is anticipated that it will selectively benefit those whose earlier
educational experience may have left them less prepared for study in a
university environment. The post-holder will provide study development
support and guidance on specific issues to individual students and groups
of students and make appropriate referrals to other university support
agencies. The adviser will also be expected to contribute actively to the
TLA Centre’s staff development programmes, forums and workshops in
relation to study development issues.
Intending applicants should be able to demonstrate proven expertise in the
area of study development or student learning in a higher education
environment and a record of involvement in change and development in
relation to study support and student learning (e.g. development of study
support programmes, introduction of learning technology, development of
resource materials). They should have confidence to work independently in
a range of disciplinary settings, possess excellent interpersonal,
communication and organisational skills and have a working familiarity
with the literature relating to study development in higher education. A
commitment to collegiality and consultative decision-making will be
expected of the post-holder. An involvement in or commitment to research
activity relating to aspects of student learning and study development in
higher education would be highly desirable.
The closing date for applications is 5 July 2002 and it is anticipated
that interviews will be held in the week beginning 22 July 2002. Further
