Politicians and the media rarely miss the opportunity that hurricanes or
extensive flooding provide to warn us of the potential dangers of global
warming. This is nature's 'wake-up call' we are told and we must change our
lifestyles.
But what is the reality behind the rhetoric?
This evening discussion brings together scientific experts and social
commentators to debate whether we are really seeing 'nature's revenge':
Mike Hulme (Executive Director, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research)
Julian Morris (Director of International Policy Network)
Peter Sammonds (Professor of Geophysics, University College London)
Charles Secrett (Executive Director, Friends of the Earth)
The debate marks the launch of Natures Revenge? Hurricanes, Floods and
Climate
Change, a book in the IoI's Debating Matters series
(http://www.instituteofideas.com/Publications/DM/index.html), published by
Hodder & Stoughton.
