Mr O'Connor's obituary article begins:
"Combining the appearance of a derelict bag-lady with a volatile
personality, Madge Herron, who has died aged 86, was a powerful presence on
the London poetry scene during the 1970s and 80s. Her ample, trundling
figure harboured a lyrical voice as potent as Dylan Thomas: "Where the
burnt-out heel of the sky cocks a hind-leg at God there He keeps me." ....
