I'm going to quote Alison in a recent email:
"How do we know when to speak, how to speak, when to be silent, how to be silent?"
In saying this, however, I'll now be silent.

I didnt vote for obvious reasons.
My point was
1. there is nothing new here
2. the people in these admission centres are being treating
a bloody sight better than were the thousands of migrants
who came before them - and we were PAYING for the
accomodation, not getting it all provided free of charge.
3. the thousands of migrants who were treated like we were,
might just feel legitimately resentful when they make the
comparison
4. This is a new point. I just spent weeks researching for a
govt grant that might give me, as a severely disabled
artist, the computer equipment I need to run my Print
AUstralia group. To no avail, there are no grants
specifically for the disabled. I did find dozens and dozens
of grants for indigenous people so I guess you could say
that the grant system certainly isn't racist, except perhaps
in reverse discrimination. Do you think if I wrote Ruddock,
he might give me one of those pcs thrown all over the floor
by the asylum seekers on the news last night? Who obviously
don't appreciate having them supplied to them. I'd put the
bloody thing to good use and I'd appreciate the gift.
"Luxury" is pronounced with a broad Yorkshire accent which I
actually used to have once upon a time. ;-)
