| Dear Alison,
|
| Your message to Peter may not have been intended for the list, but I am
very
| glad you sent it there.
|
| There is no point in you reading at rfh and svp... certainly if you do
the
| same thing
|
| [The thing about Heller is that tho his work is varied he always does a
| range; and it feels the same... I invite him back because he is so good at
| what he does and what I see as his historical importance]
|
| I was going to pursue with you what you might do at svp later; but let's
do
| it now
|
| svp is supposedly _cutting edge_. Personally I think the term's
meaningless,
| not in itself but in terms of the model it proposes
|
| I'm on record as slamming _experimental_
|
| I can't define it and after 7 years it has to be mine - I can no longer
| attribute it to Gilbert
|
| Risk, formal experimentation, performance experimentation, attention to
| sound and visual
|
| & I try to extend that, to make people about the range of risk and the
| range of experimentation which are possible
|
| So perhaps we can flog you on the basis that at the rfh you will give to
| caesar and at svp you will give to... er
|
| But here is thought. You may not know that I also have a series, about to
| begin - 19th Mar - at Camden People's Theatre (just acrossEuston Rd from
| Warren St) where there is cd and md and cassette playback, lighting (if
it
| has to be changed in the performance we have to pay o'time but I'll do
that
| if we have to) + seating of 60 which can be raked or in the round etc
|
| Only thing is that I would like you to use the space in some way - i.e. to
| do something that you can't do in the tiny space of Betsey - room for you
to
| stand or sit, but no room to move about and no tech . This comes from me -
| for years people have been saying that svp space does not permit them to
do
| all they want - and from the Artistic Director of cpt.... He doesn't want
a
| poetry reading poetry reading
|
| The deal there is the same but different. Over a certain number the poets
| get the bulk of the gate... we're still working out the formula [you're
| unlikely to get 50 tho it's not impossible so we'd need to use the donor
| idea
|
| So in one way or another I'd like to know we can differentiate between rfh
| and svp
|
| If I can persuade you to make a 30 - 40 min piece for camden (you have
time,
| yes you do) - or bring one you may have - that'll be great
|
|
| Lawrence
