Hello, Folks.
I have to say I enjoyed the Common Ground Conference very much because of
the diversity that was represented...diversity in areas of design research,
schools, and gender represented on the program. Many of the connections
were made during the breaks and mealtimes. When I made my closing remarks,
I stated that I need to work to stay open-minded because our field is in a
very nebulous stage so I always appreciate dissenting views.
I think a good conference has times for paper presentations (many people
cannot attend unless they present), and then open sessions where the entire
body is engaged in one discussion, but not dominated by a handful of
people. The exhibition area this year also showed promise but needs
guidelines for presentation. It was a good start and Chris Rust and others
are working on improvements to the exhibition guidelines.
