Ken suggested that the JISCmail digest problems were best solved by better user
behaviour. This is dangerously close to blaming the user, a bad habit for any
designer.
It is not reasonable to expect the great diversity of email users to grapple
with setup problems for such a simple product as email. This is a new problem
which never existed in the early days of email and it was created by an
obsession with features before usability.
It is possible for JISCmail to do something about this (filtering spurious
code). It would be a difficult job but a very big number of people would
benefit. JISC were awarded the UK government contract to deliver all UK
academic mail systems, presumably on the basis of their competence to handle
big complex systems and deliver a useful service.
