1. Overview

This October, Arts & Technology Partnerships (formerly Gallery of the
Future) re-launches in Loughborough, UK.

The organisation has been re-developed and is launching with a three
day series of seminars exploring issues in digital arts, primarily
aimed at artists and arts workers in the East Midlands. Work
generated by previous projects undertaken by the organisation which
range from virtual reality to rapid prototyping of computer generated
sculptures; from interactive softboards to models for digital arts
education, will be exhibited. Speakers from across the spectrum of
digital arts will deliver sessions ranging from key issues in the
digital arts and regional infrastructures to case studies of specific
projects.

2. Board of Directors

Arts & Technology Partnerships wishes to recruit an East Midlands
based artist to sit on its Board of Directors. This is an exciting
opportunity to contribute at Board level to the ongoing development
of a new digital arts organisation. The selected candidate will join
existing Board members and the organisation's advisory panel at
quarterly meetings to discuss and determine policy, development and
management of Arts & Technology Partnerships as it establishes itself
as a key regional body in the field of digital and technological arts
practice.

Candidates will be expected to have experience working with a variety
of arts projects, and some experience of working with digital, media
or technology-based arts practice. Prior experience of Board level
management is not essential, but an understanding of administrative,
fundraising, evaluation, communication or audience development issues
would be advantageous.

Arts & Technology Partnerships is keen to ensure that the individuals
that make up its Board reflect the cultural diversity of the East
Midlands.

existing Board members. An initial deadline for statements of
interest is 5pm Friday 25th October - applications are acceptable by

3. Access Scheme - call for Submissions

As part of the re-launch, Arts & Technology Partnerships is piloting
an access initiative aiming to provide low-cost action-research
access to high-end technologies.

OVERVIEW

The access scheme is running as a pilot from Monday 18th November
2002 - Friday 18th July 2003. Twelve artists will be selected to
participate - each receiving two days dedicated access to one of the
machines in Arts & Technology Partnerships' digital media facility,
plus associated support, for £10 per week. It is hoped that from the
pilot model, Arts & Technology Partnerships will develop a full
bursary scheme for artists to gain paid access to the facility to
carry out research and development.

There are six workstations in Arts & Technology Partnerships' digital
media resource: video, sound, 3D modelling, print and web [two
machines]. All the workstations are Macs, except the 3D modelling and
one of the web machines, which are PC. All have net access and there
is a range of supporting hardware including video + stills camera,
scanners, colour laser printer etc.

The selected artists will work with Arts & Technology Partnerships to
develop their research projects to a level where they can take form
as fully fledged projects. The outcomes may be a piece of art, a new
application for technology, a research paper, a series of training
workshops. Through the scheme, Arts & Technology Partnerships hopes
to enable artists to discover new ways of using technologies and
discover new partnerships with technologists within a long term
research framework.

The selection will be made on the basis of maximum benefit and we
will select a broad range of artists in terms of establishment,
practice and potential users. We will also prioritise placements for
at least one non-artist / technologist wishing to explore arts
practice further, one commercial creative practitioner and one
outreach / community worker. Furthermore, placements will be sought
that fulfill Arts & Technology Partnerships' remit to continue
working within the fields of education, disability and community
empowerment.

The scheme will not be open for the development or completion of
currently funded projects. Although it is recognised that
commercially viable products may be generated from the research
residencies, the emphasis will be placed on public sector or
non-profit applications where a product is likely.

Arts & Technology Partnerships is not art-form specific, and welcomes
applications from performance, visual, sound, media and hybrid
practitioners. We are particularly interested in work which, whilst
of a high interest or quality, is not highly represented in
conventional commissions and funds.

RULES

- Users will sign up for the full six months (a total of £240)
although they may pay monthly.
- Users will take full responsibility for their assigned machines
during their access days.
- Users will credit Arts & Technology Partnerships on all work
arising from participation in the scheme.

APPLICATIONS

Deadline 5pm Friday 25th October. Applications are acceptable by email.

Applicants should submit a covering letter, giving a brief idea of
their area of practice and research interest and what they hope to
get out of participation in the scheme, plus a CV. Please do not send
supporting material at this stage. Please also state whether you wish
to be considered for Mon/Wed or Tues/Thu (or both).

Applicants will be notified on 1st November (please state whether you
prefer mail or email).
