NAS/NRC POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN
ATMOSPHERIC KINETICS AND PHOTCHEMISTRY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in atmospheric
kinetics and photochemistry at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
California Institute of Technology. The research involves time-resolved
studies of the reactions of HO2 and RO2 radicals important in atmospheric
ozone chemistry. The experimental technique uses laser photolysis
combined with time-resolved NIR laser heterodyne and UV absorption
spectroscopy. The research is carried out jointly between the groups of Dr.
Stanley Sander at JPL and Dr. Mitchio Okumura, Department of Chemistry,
California Institute of Technology. Applicants should have a recent Ph.D.
in physical chemistry or chemical physics with a strong background in
experimental research in one or more of the following areas: kinetics,
photochemistry, spectroscopy and dynamics.
The position is sponsored by NASA and administered through the National
Research Council Resident Research Associateship (NAS/NRC RRA) Program.
Annual starting salary for a recent Ph.D. is approximately $45,000 and can
vary somewhat according to the applicant's qualifications. Relocation and
conference travel funds are included. RRA positions are awarded initially
for a 1 year period. Appoints may be renewed in 1 year increments for a
maximum of 2 additional years.
Applicants must submit an application and brief research proposal for review
by JPL/Caltech and an NRC review panel. All application materials must be
postmarked by August 15, 2002 to be considered for the October panel review.

Applicants should also contact Dr. Sander ([log in to unmask]) and/or
Dr. Okumura ([log in to unmask]) for additional information and guidance
in the preparation of the research proposal.
