Attention: Prof. E.F. van Dishoeck
Leiden Observatory invites applications for a tenure-track faculty
position in the Raymond & Beverly Sackler Laboratory for Astrophysics
starting in early 2003. The successful applicant is expected to lead
the use and development of innovative new laboratory experiments aimed
at addressing scientific problems of astrophysical and astrochemical
interest. Existing instrumentation includes high-vacuum and
ultra-high vacuum set-ups to simulate the formation and evolution of
interstellar ices, including thermal and ultraviolet processing.
Close interaction with the molecular astrophysics group at Leiden
Observatory, and with astronomical observations in general, is
expected. The position is part of the Netherlands (top-)Research
School for Astronomy (NOVA), a national association of university
astronomy departments.
The position is open to scientists of all nationalities. Candidates
with postdoctoral experience in the general area of laboratory
astrophysics or experimental chemical physics (in particular in
surface chemistry, ultra-high vacuum techniques and/or mid-infrared
spectroscopy) and with experience in interstellar applications, are
encouraged to apply. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae,
publication list, and a statement of past and future research
interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent
to Professor E.F. van Dishoeck at the above address by July 15, 2002.
