A postdoc position (about 40000 Euro per annum before tax/deductions) is
available from October 2002 for two years at the Institute for Physical
Chemistry, University of Goettingen (Germany). The position is part of the
Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB) 602, project A8, "Structural and Dynamical
Characterization of Amorphous Molecular Aggregates".
This project combines experimental and theoretical techniques to
investigate intermolecular interactions in large molecular clusters in the
nanometer size range. The experimental approach so far uses infrared
spectroscopy together with free jet expansions, collisional cooling, and
electrospray techniques to generate the nanoparticles. It is planned to
extend these generation methods to rapid expansion from supercritical
solutions (RESS). On the theoretical side classical molecular dynamics
simulations will be combined with quantum-mechanical exciton coupling
models to describe spectra of large aggregates. Quantum-chemical
calculations of smaller clusters using the super-molecule approach serve to
calibrate these classical/quantum-mechanical models.
The project's interdisciplinary character leaves wide scope for a postdoc
to put the emphasis on experimental or on theoretical aspects. Further
