Dear all,
A little shameless commercial plug
I have access to the last ten copies of "New Cumnock's Mining Heritage -
the 50th Bank Auld Pit Reunion Commemorative Volume" available for sale.
The book was produced privately by the committee of the Bank Auld Pit
Reunion, to commemorate their 50th reunion in October 1999. The Bank was
Bank Colliery, New Cumnock, Ayrshire which closed in 1969 and there was
originally a reunion of Bank Auld Pit Trade Shop Workers, but now seems to
involve anybody associated with the New Cumnock Collieries. The book is
hardbound and 144 pages. It covers: -
1. New Cumnock - Past & Present
2. Pits and mines of New Cumnock
3. The Bank Auld Pit
4. The Bank No.6 Mining Disaster
5. The annual reunion of Bank Auld Pit Trade Shop Workers
6. Minutes form the meetings of the Annual Reunion
7. Songs, Stories and Poems of the Reunion
8. Knockshinnoch Castle Colliery
9. The Knockshinnoch Mining Disaster
The book is an excellent read with lots of mining content. However the
highlight for me is Songs, Stories and Poems, the poetry in particular is
super (as you'd expect from a town associated with Rabbie Burns!). Lookout
in particular for "A Discourse in Hydrostatics" (linking reservoirs, speech
impediments and prostrate problems!!!!).
The money raised will be used to provide lunches for mining pensioners at
the next reunion lunch next month. Suggested price £12 including P&P.
Please direct interest or higher offers (!!!?!!!) to me directly.
Regards
Graham Owens
