Hello,
Large mine sites in Germany:
-Zollverein, Essen, coal mine and coke work (late 1920ties)
-Rammelsberg, Goslar, lead-zinc-copper (1930ties)
Large mine sites France:
-Wendel, Petite Roselle/Lorraine, coal (1950ties); photos: http://www.mining-europe.de/gallery/frankreich/lothringenost.htm
Poland:
-Julia, Walbrzych (1920ties); don't know what is preserved now, but there were big plans - and no money...; photos: http://www.mining-europe.de/gallery/walbrzych/niederschlesien.htm
Coal washeries:
-Zollverein is the only one in Germany
-Wendel (2 washeries, one was transformed into a museum)
I think these sites all have websites. Perhaps there is more detail information within the WWW about these sites. If you cannot find anything, contact me and I will help.
Some more photos from Kempen coalfield: http://www.mining-europe.de/gallery/belgien/Kempen1.htm; http://www.mining-europe.de/gallery/belgien/Kempen2.htm

Subject: mining heritage sites / mining museums
A couple of years ago the Flemish Government scheduled all the remaining
buildings of the coalmine of Beringen and now the decision has been taken
to transform it into a museum and a mining heritage interpretation center.
The mine, which was conceded just before the first war and which started
production immediately after the war (at great depth) is huge.
Actually we are looking for the following information:
- what do you believe are the largest mines protected and/or preserved in
Europe - and what is or will be their future ?
- how many complete 20th c. coal washing and sifting plants have been
preserved (and where exactly ?)
- is there anywhere a survey available on the mining museums existing in
Europe (the UK is no problem, there is the Museum's Yearbook) ? Or can
participants to mining-history tell us what mining museums the know of.
Unfortunately there is little on the internet on the Beringen coalmine.
Hereby nevertheless some websites on Beringen:
