Eggs Hill isn't mentioned in the "List of Mines" for 1917 - in theory at
least, it should be there if it was worked during the year. In 1907 it was
owned by the Yate Brick Co (C J R Stirling) who employed 7 men there. I
haven't been able to find any information for 1908 to 1916.
For what it's worth, I seem to recall that one of the Somerset pits
(Pensford or Clutton?) was being sunk by German engineers at the outbreak of
war in 1914. Down and Warrington give details, but I haven't got a copy of
their book to hand.
