The University of Liverpool has a vacancy for a lecturer in
Communications/Media Studies, within its School of Politics and
Communication Studies. Read on, for more information....
This post arises from current and planned expansion in Communication
Studies at Liverpool, which was one of the first of the older Universities
to offer Communication Studies teaching. Beginning in the late 1970s by
offering a range of options on the Combined Honours programme, we are now
situated in the School of Politics and Communication Studies and we run
three Joint Honours degrees: English and Communication Studies, Politics
and Communication Studies and Communication and Business Studies (see
School brochure for details). Each of these programmes recruits around 20
well-qualified students a year. From 2003, our provision will expand to
offer a further joint programme with the Institute of Popular Music.
Communication staff also contribute to a successful MA programme and
supervise M.Phil/PhD students. There will be opportunities for the
successful candidate to develop new modules at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels as well as teaching on existing ones in co-operation
with the Communication specialists (Professor John Corner, Dr Julia Hallam,
Mr Adrian Quinn, Dr Kay Richardson and Dr Piers Robinson).
The successful candidate will be committed to interdisciplinary
perspectives in media research within a social science setting. The School
as a whole has a strong research profile with a mix of independent and
joint projects, including ESRC-funded inquiry. Currently, staff are
pursuing interests in areas such as political celebrity, language and the
Internet, the history of regulation, television drama and news media and
foreign policy. Although applications are invited from any area of media
research, preference may be given to applicants with research interests in
advertising and publicity, new communication technologies or international
media policy and perspectives on globalisation. Quality of past, current
and future research performance will be a key factor in making the
appointment.
