Metadata for e-government: information management meets information
technology
Date: Tuesday 8 October 2002
Time: 6.30 pm
Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1
Speaker: Maewyn Cumming, Senior Policy Adviser, Interoperability and
Metadata at the Office of the e-Envoy
In the first of a series of evening meetings organised by the London &
Home Counties Branch (LHCB) of CILIP, Maewyn Cumming will discuss the
government's overall vision and policy for getting the UK online, with
specific reference to the interoperability framework (e-GIF) and metadata.
The value of information management skills is being increasingly
recognised, and library and information professionals should play a key
role in organising and making accessible the vast store of information
that the government is putting online.
Maewyn Cumming is responsible for developing the e-government metadata
framework and associated standard. She has been a government librarian
since 1992, first at the Department of the Environment, then at the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 1999 she moved to the Cabinet Office,
and in 2001 took on the role of Metadata Policy Adviser.
L&HCB evening meetings are free and open to all with a professional
interest in the topic. They are a follow-up to meetings held by IIS
Southern Branch. Refreshments will be available afterwards. As space is
limited, please let us know if you are coming. Contact Phillip Powell at
