I'm very pleased that the list is proving to be a useful place for
colleagues to debate issues related to the Corporate Plan and indeed CILIP
in general. I'm reading all the comments and they will all be brought
together with other responses for consideration by CILIP's Executive Board
on 5 September.
Earlier today Lyndsay made a mistake and she had apologised promptly and
fulsomely to Oriole and to the list in general. I hope colleagues will
accept the apology and move on. And I hope we'll hear more from you Justine;
there are very interesting things going on in the schools sector and I'd
like to know whether you feel that CILIP is "getting it right" in terms of
support for colleagues working in that sector.
Bob.

Subject: Corporate Plan : membership
Dear colleagues
I am particularly interested in the issues surrounding
membership and involvement of members and have read
the initial draft. To make up for my present lack of
involvement in CILIP issues I decided to join this
list a couple of days ago.
As a school librarian I have found it difficult to
keep in touch with the debate at this level of the
Institute's development(an issue for CILIP in itself -
but one I am doing my bit to address). I made a
conscious decision to change this and have been
reading the mailings. These have expressed a range of
views all of which appear valid if at times
vociferously put. I was hoping that in time I would
participate further when I felt I had more to say,
certainly before the August deadline.
However, in light of the e-mail sent from Lindsay
Rees-Jones concerning another member of the LIS-CILIP,
I am reconsidering my list membership. The personal
nature of this mailing from a professional in the
employ of CILIP as workplace and solo advisor, was ill
considered and I found it offensive although it was
not aimed at me.
If CILIP is looking to increase/involve members, then
it needs to encourage debate and involvement from
members like myself. It can take courage to develop a
voice, which may be the reason that many interested
members have not taken up the opportunity to comment
so far. I'm only sorry that I found my voice in
relation to this.
I would like to thank Sheila Corrall for her
encouragement to join the list, I'm sure she didn't
envisage it would be used to denigrate individual
colleagues.
