The John Rylands University Library of Manchester
Assistant Librarian (Health Sciences)
Your post will be in the Library’s Information Resources and
Services (IRS) Division, which provides support for teaching,
learning and research in all academic disciplines within the
University of Manchester. Your primary role will be to support the
Faculty Librarian for Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy in
all her/his duties but, in particular, you will assist in developing the
Library’s collections in those areas and provide a wide range of user
services, including answering enquiries and providing user education
and database training. You will undertake duties mainly in relation
to the School of Nursing Midwifery & Health Visiting in the first
instance. In addition, you will participate in the overall work of
the IRS Division, which includes late night/ weekend duties.
You should have an honours degree and a postgraduate
qualification in library and information science or a good honours
degree in library and information science. Strong communication,
interpersonal and team-working skills are essential as are good
presentation/teaching skills. Recent knowledge or experience of
nursing, midwifery & health visiting or other health science
disciplines is also essential. Some previous experience in an
academic library setting would be an advantage. Secondment
would be considered as this post is part of a maternity leave cover
arrangement.
Salary is on the academic-related scale 1 (£17,626 to £19,681 )
