Apologies for cross posting
There are still places left on the CALIM (Consortium of Academic
Libraries in Manchester) Supporting Diversity Day. The event is
aimed at front line staff in all library sectors who wish to improve
their awareness of diversity issues and increase the inclusiveness
of their service.
The event will take place on Thursday 27th June 2002 at the Aytoun
Site of the Manchester Metropolitan University.
The day will consist of a number of workshops looking at how
library and information staff can best support all the current and
potential users of their services. Subjects covered will include
Supporting visual impairments
Supporting hearing impairments
Supporting dyslexia
Supporting users with mental health problems.
Supporting cross-cultural communication.
The main speaker will be Dr Philip Pothen. Dr Pothen is the Chair
of the Diversity Council, a federation of organisations working to
promote diversity in the library and information profession. Having
gained sufficient signatures, the Diversity Council is now applying
to set up a Diversity Group within CILIP. Gill Barry, Deputy
Librarian of the Manchester Metropolitan University and Chair of the
CALIM disability group, will be chairing the day.
The cost of the day will be £85 per person. This includes lunch and
3 workshops.
