For several years now we have charged Users £1 per Interlibrary Request
and this charge has been collected at the time the User puts in the
request. We decided to ask for payment before the item is received as
we often send out photocopies via the BL's ADD Address service direct to
the User's home address. The one drawback of this is that around 10% of
requests are found to be in stock (this figure has risen from 5% to 10 %
over the last year due to the increase in the library's subscriptions to
online full text journal databases) and therefore a refund is due to the
requestor. Up until now we have been able to record the £1.00 payment
and if necessary refund available information on our home-grown
Interlibrary Request access database, but we are soon to move to the
TALIS Interloan module and I cannot see anyway of recording a payment in
advance or a refund available. I would appreciate any feedback from
TALIS users on whether they charge for Interlibrary Requests, whether
they ask for payment in advance or on collection and how they record
this on the TALIS system.
Many Thanks,
Annette Moore
