Visit to the British Education Index at Leeds University Library 2-5 p.m.
11 July 2002 Conference Room in the Edward Boyle Library
The British Education Index name may be forever associated with the bibliographic service covering published educational literature but its producers have been steadily developing a range of complementary services which have been quietly maturing. Increasingly, the BEI website in particular represents an attempt to convey information about a broad range of educational research-related information in its various forms. The visit to the BEI will provide an opportunity to see and ask questions about BEI services including Education-line, education conference listings and programmes and the Index itself. The presentation will also include information about projects in which the BEI is pre-eminently involved. These include the British Education Portal project, funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee as part of its development of the Distributed National Electronic Resource, and the very recent Pedagogical and Educational Research Information Network for Europe (PERINE) !
project, funded by the European Commission as part of its Framework 5 programme. In all of these activities the BEI is seeking to establish new relationships between the producers, providers and users of educational information, recognising that librarians and information workers have significant roles to play in that process. The BEI's Manager, Phil Sheffield, will be giving the presentation and demonstration and welcomes suggestions for content in advance of the meeting ([log in to unmask]). If you are interested in attending then please book a place with Judy Reading ELG Secretary [log in to unmask] tel. 01865-274028
Visitors should report to the reception desk in that Library and will be directed to the Room from there. There is a campus map at: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/campus_map/campus.htm
which leads to more information about the location of that Library, car parks, particular buildings and such-like.
