Hello
Firstly I would like to say how useful it is that access should now be
available to Aslib Periodicals via Emerald.
At Queen Margaret University College we have current print subscriptions to
a number of Aslib periodicals. We receive two ASLIB periodicals as part of
our ASLIB membership. At present we have been informed by Emerald that for
those journals where we have existing print subscriptions, access is now
available using the normal method of access (IP recognition on campus -
Athens authentication off-campus). However, for the two titles that we
receive as part of our ASLIB membership a secondary username and password is
required. We have been supplied with two individual passwords to access each
of the two journals received through ASLIB membership.
I think that this will cause great confusion for our students. Emerald is a
very popular database for QM students and is promoted as a database where
students can access full text articles of the entire content of Emerald.
This is no longer the case. We will have to state you can access full text
articles from most publications using an Athens password, HOWEVER, if you
want to access two specific ASLIB journals you require another username and
password.
We can include this information on our e-journals web pages where students
link directly to specific articles. However, I foresee a great number of
phonecalls and e-mails from confused users enquiring why they can't access
two specific ASLIB titles.
I have offered this information as feedback to Emerald. I would like to say
that the support staff have been very helpful with regard to setting up
access to ASLIB titles in Emerald for which I am grateful. However, I would
like to ask if any other institution is having the same problem or has any
thoughts on this matter?
Thanks
Sharron
