## advanced notice ##
IRNES is holding a seminar/workshop on 29th April at the Design Council,
London
The subject of the seminar is ....
.....The sustainable aesthetic......
If sustainability is real then what does it look like?
(...and can i smell it?)
'Sustainability has to be beautiful in some sort of way if its going to mean anything in the long
run.. ...How could it capture a sufficient number of imaginations if it wasn't?'
Are the qualities of sustainability such as interconnectedness and diversity 'visible' in
sustainable solutions?
Are organic farms more beautiful than industrial mono-culture?
Is an eco-village more beautiful than urban sprawl?
Is a bicycle prettier than a porsche?
are these loaded questions?
The idea is to get an interdisciplinary perspective. The disciplines of engineering, design,
marketing and policy will be represented at the event, will yours?
Numbers will be limited and places allocated on a first come first serve basis. The final programme
will be issued in March.
There will be a mixture of short formal presentations, discussion, experimental and creative
workshop activity. If you are interested in coming along or you'd like to present then contact Andy
Dixon ([log in to unmask]) or Kate Fletcher ([log in to unmask]). There will be a small charge
to cover expenses.
