On behalf of the Institute of Geography and Regional Science we have the
distinct honor to present two events of an annual series on "Regional
Policies in Europe" - the International Symposium and the Summer
University - which will take place in Bad Radkersburg, Austria this
September for the fourth time!
The three week Summer University program "New Ways of Cross-Border
Cooperation" is designed as a know-how-transfer institution for research
results into practice. The focus on practice, which is of particular
concern, will be achieved by cooperating with political authorities,
administration officials, experts in economy and social studies as well
as by working with media and cooperating with non-profit organizations.
. Module 1: Achieving Synergies through Economic Cooperation
across Borders (Sept., 2-6)
. Module 2: Key Tools and Techniques for Successful Cross-Border
Cooperation (Sept., 9-13)
. Module 3: Cross-Border Cooperation through Partnership and
Participation Models (Sept., 15-19)
The International Symposium "Regional Policies in Europe - Soft Features
for Innovative Cross-Border Cooperation" is the closing highlight of the
events. The main topics will deal with cultural bridges across borders,
cross-border clusters and networks, social dynamics of cross-border
cooperation, the value of individual, local or regional identities as
well as political spaces as trans-national entities. The theoretical
approaches will be explained and underpinned with good-practice
examples. The Keynote Speech "The Importance of Cross-Border
Cooperations for the Enlargement of the European Union" will be
presented by Dr. Erhard Busek (Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact
for South Eastern Europe, Brussels, Belgium).
We would like to invite YOU to participate in this international,
interdisciplinary, innovative and flexible program. YOU will have the
chance to discuss new perspectives, current issues and to exchange
knowledge within the wide field of regional development in Europe.
For participants of Central and Eastern European countries we are able
to provide a limited number of fellowships for partial funding. The
final program - where you will find further information about fees and
fellowships - is available on the internet and the printed version can
also be ordered by a short email. The registration deadline for both
events is June, 30th, 2002.
We would kindly ask you to pass this information also to all your
colleagues who might be interested in our events.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Bad Radkersburg!
Sincerely yours
Friedrich M. Zimmermann
