GIS Assistant
Stretching for over 2000 miles, Britain’s canals and inland waterways are a
major leisure and tourist attraction. At British Waterways, we are
responsible for their protection, conservation and enhancement, ensuring
that millions of visitors can enjoy our country’s heritage for years to
come.
This job is an opportunity for you to provide expertise in the area of GIS
and mapping within the Midlands and South West Region. Based at Tamworth,
Staffordshire, you’ll assist in the development, maintenance and promotion
of GIS across multiple offices and departments.
You’ll project-manage the application of GIS for particular business needs,
as well as help identify opportunities where GIS can be utilised to enhance
existing procedures; assist in the development of corporate policies and
initiatives; undertake data capture of new data sets and help maintain
existing data-sets and also be expected to train existing and new users.
Relevant degree (MSc in GIS is preferred). A good working knowledge of GIS
and data management is essential, ideally within an estates / commercial
business environment. Experience of ESRI's products would be an advantage,
particularly ArcView 8.
IT knowledge should include all Microsoft Office applications, including
Microsoft Access and a knowledge of Intranet and Internet technologies.
A familiarity with DTP would be an advantage and Visual Basic would also be
particularly useful. You will have strong organisational, communication,
presentation and team-working skills, as well as the ability to work
unsupervised.
A valid driving licence, own transport and UK work permit are essential.
